Mudchute Park and Farm is a 32-acre green space on the Isle of Dogs in East London, with more than 100 farm animals and views toward Canary Wharf. Walk among fields, woodland and animal enclosures, visit the duck pond, or buy feed to give to some of the animals. The farm is free to enter, and easy trails make it a relaxed stop for families and dog walkers. There is also an equestrian centre, a café and space for picnics.

A city farm on the Isle of Dogs

Mudchute Park and Farm covers 32 acres on the Isle of Dogs, close to Canary Wharf. It is a community charity with a working farm, stables, a children’s nursery and educational activities. Open fields and animal areas sit alongside the city skyline, giving the walk a distinctly East London setting.

More than 100 animals live here. The farm has cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys, llamas, ducks, geese and smaller animals. Some are in enclosures and others can be seen in the fields. A petting area and duck pond add to the farm visit, while the wider park has woodland, wetlands and meadows.

Walking, riding and family activities

Several short trails cross the park, with easy walking routes through its open spaces. The farm is a practical choice for families looking for an outdoor activity in London, and the paths around the animal areas are suitable for prams. The main approach from the station can be difficult with a pram; a narrow paved path on the raised ground to the left runs alongside it.

The equestrian centre is a major part of the site, with a riding school for adults and children. Its facilities include an all-weather, floodlit arena, show jumps and cross-country fences. The farm also runs educational activities, and occasional animal encounter sessions are held for children. Check the farm’s website for current activities.

Practical details for your visit

Entry is free. You can buy animal feed for £1.50 from the courtyard beside the café. Follow any instructions around the enclosures when feeding animals; llamas may be less receptive to close interaction than some of the other residents.

Dogs are welcome on the grounds but must be kept on a lead. A large fenced area is used for off-leash exercise. Mudchute Kitchen is a dog-friendly café beside the equestrian centre. Toilets are available on site, and there is space for picnics.

The ground can be muddy, so sturdy footwear is useful. A nearby Asda car park has been used for stays of up to three hours, with the farm a short walk away; check parking terms before leaving your car.
