New Farm Park

New Farm Park is a large riverside green space in Brisbane’s New Farm neighbourhood, with gardens, open lawns and room for a picnic or a walk. In spring, roses bloom in the garden and jacarandas bring purple colour to the park; October is a good time to see the jacarandas at their best. Families can head to the playground, while the riverbank and quieter spots suit a stroll or a rest. The park is also beside Brisbane Powerhouse, with a ferry stop nearby.

Gardens and open space

New Farm Park combines landscaped gardens with broad lawns and paths beside the river. The rose garden is a draw when the flowers are in season, and spring brings colour across the park. Jacarandas are at their best around October, when their purple blooms create a canopy in parts of the grounds.

There is space to spread out for a picnic, read, take a walk or exercise. The park also has a playground for children, and soccer fields occupy one end of the grounds. The river provides a different view from the garden paths and open areas.

Picnics and nearby sights

Picnicking is one of the park’s main uses, with lawns suited to families and groups. Barbecue facilities are available, including gas-powered grills near the river and others by the ferry terminal and playground. Bring your own food and drinks if you want to keep the outing simple; nearby cafes can be pricey.

Brisbane Powerhouse, an arts venue with eateries, sits beside the park. A ferry stop provides access from the river. On weekends the grounds can be busy, and parking may be difficult, so public transport or the ferry can be a practical alternative.
