Haleʻiwa Aliʻi Beach Park is a beach and grassy recreation area on Oʻahu’s North Shore, near Haleʻiwa Harbor and the historic town. Its broad stretch of sand and open lawn make room for a picnic, a walk, or a place to watch surfers at a North Shore break used for competitions. Look west for green sea turtles on the beach, and stay for the sunset over the ocean and northern mountains. Restrooms, showers, picnic tables and parking make it practical for a beach stop.

Haleʻiwa Aliʻi Beach Park sits in Waialua Bay, beside Haleʻiwa town and near the small-boat harbor. The park covers about 20 acres and combines a wide sandy beach with a grassy recreation area. Picnic tables and palms sit between the open lawn and the shore.

The beach is part of the North Shore’s concentrated surf area. Surf contests take place at the break here, including events in the winter season. The Hawaiian Pro is held at Haleʻiwa, though its contest site should not be confused with Haleʻiwa Beach Park near Pueana Point. The two parks are separate places.

Surf and swimming conditions

The ocean changes considerably by season. Winter brings large surf to the reef break, and waves can become dangerous; strong currents and rip tides are a concern. Those conditions are for experienced surfers, not casual swimming. On smaller days, the break has two peaks, with a left and right direction for surfers.

Summer is usually calmer, with conditions more suitable for family swimming. The shoreline is sandy, but the ocean bottom has rocky areas. Lifeguards are stationed at the park, and swimming is supervised. Check the conditions at the beach before entering the water, and follow lifeguard guidance.

The park beyond the shoreline

The grassy area gives you space to picnic, walk or spend time out of the water. The lawn is also used for volleyball, Frisbee, family barbecues and community events. Restrooms, showers and picnic tables are available, and parking makes a short visit easier to plan.

The west side of the beach is a place to look for green sea turtles. Give turtles room and watch from a respectful distance. Near the park, Haleʻiwa Harbor has boat ramps and a pier with views across the breakwater. Tour boats and fishing vessels use the harbor, adding another short walk to a visit in the area.
