Diamond Head Beach Park sits below Diamond Head Lighthouse, east of Waikīkī in Honolulu. A path leads down to a narrow, rocky shoreline where you can watch surfers, look across the ocean and explore tide pools. The beach is quieter than nearby Waikīkī, but its coral and rocks make it a poor choice for comfortable swimming or sunbathing. Come for the coastal views and a walk by the water, or watch the sunset from the shore or the concrete wall above.
The path to the shore

Diamond Head Beach Park is near Diamond Head Lighthouse, at the base of Diamond Head and east of Waikīkī. From the parking area, a steep path leads down to the beach. The walk offers views of the ocean and lighthouse, and there is a concrete wall above the shore where you can sit and watch the sunset.
The route is not an easy option for everyone: the descent is steep, and reaching the beach takes a walk. Sturdy shoes are useful on the way down and along the rocky shoreline.
Rock pools, reef and surf

The beach is a small, narrow strip of sand beside a rocky shelf and reef. Surfers use the break, and you can watch them from shore. Tide pools offer a closer look at the water along the rocks; when conditions allow, the reef can also be a place to snorkel.
Rocks and coral near shore make swimming less suitable here than at a sandy beach. Wear water shoes if you plan to explore the water’s edge, and take care around the rocks. The park works better for a coastal walk, a surf-watching stop or a quiet sit by the shore than for a full day of swimming and sunbathing.
Sunset and a quieter shoreline
The beach is generally quieter than Waikīkī, though surfers can be out on the water. Weekdays are a good choice for a less crowded visit. Sunset is another reason to stop, with the view more visible in winter. Bring a chair if you want to settle in above or beside the shore.
