How the arch formed

Angels Window
Angels Window

Angels Window is a natural opening in the canyon wall. Wind and water erosion carved the arch over millions of years, leaving a rocky projection over the canyon.

The arch sits at Cape Royal, among the North Rim’s named rock formations. The names of several landmarks in the area draw on mythology, a naming tradition associated with early geologist Clarence Dutton.
