In Miami’s Allapattah neighborhood, the Rubell Museum presents contemporary art from the collection built by Mera and Don Rubell. Its galleries bring together established names such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Yayoi Kusama with works by more than 1,000 artists. Exhibitions include paintings, sculpture, photography, video and installations, with displays that change over time. The museum occupies former industrial buildings adapted by architect Annabelle Selldorf. Set aside a few hours to explore, and check whether the optional Yayoi Kusama experience is available for your visit.
A family collection in Miami

Mera and Don Rubell began collecting art in New York in 1964. Over time, their family collection grew to more than 7,000 works by over 1,000 artists. The museum makes part of that collection accessible to the public in Miami, while exhibitions bring selected works together in changing displays.
The museum moved from Wynwood to Allapattah in 2019. Its location is 1100 NW 23rd St, in a former industrial complex adapted for exhibition by architect Annabelle Selldorf.
Artists and changing exhibitions

The collection spans contemporary art by established and emerging artists. Names represented include Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama, Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Glenn Ligon, Rashid Johnson and Kerry James Marshall. The range includes painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation, so the galleries offer different ways to encounter the collection.
Some displays rotate, while certain works appear in permanent exhibitions. The museum has been described as having 40 galleries; the number and content of exhibitions can change, so check the current display information before your visit if you have a particular artist in mind.
Planning time for the galleries
