The Hall of State

The Hall of State opened in 1936 as part of the Texas Centennial Exposition in Fair Park. Originally known as the State of Texas Building, it was designed to celebrate the state and its history. The building’s plan is shaped like a T, and its Art Deco design carries Texas symbolism into the details.

At the entrance, a semicircular recess is framed by limestone columns and bands of blue tile that evoke the bluebonnet, the state flower. Monumental columns and symbolic sculpture give the exterior a strong sense of scale. Inside, patterned ceilings, mosaics and murals continue the decorative approach.
