On Al Khaleej Road in Dubai’s Al Shindagha area, the Crossroads of Civilizations Museum is a compact private museum focused on cultural exchange and the region’s history as a trading link between Asia, Africa and Europe. Its displays bring together manuscripts, weapons, pearls and objects connected to different faiths. Look for the 16th-century Kaaba covering and historic books, and allow time for the sections on Holocaust remembrance and Palestine and the Holy Land. English descriptions help explain many of the exhibits.

    Artifacts across cultures

The museum brings together objects from the personal collection of Ahmed Obaid Al Mansoori, including historic artifacts, rare manuscripts and weapons. The displays range across religions and cultures, with sections devoted to pearls and arms as well as interfaith engagement.

Some manuscripts and religious objects have particular historical significance. Among the items to look for are an Armenian Bible with ivory covers and a Kaaba covering associated with Suleiman the Magnificent. The 16th Kaaba door-cover is also singled out among the museum’s notable objects.

    The Museum Group

The Crossroads of Civilizations Museum is part of The Museum Group, which also includes the Rare Books, Manuscripts & Prints Museum and The Armory Museum. Those two museums are in a nearby heritage house, a short, signposted walk away.

A separate ticket is required for access to all three museums. Check the ticket details before setting out if you plan to visit the whole group, rather than only the Crossroads of Civilizations Museum.

    Displays on memory and exchange

The exhibits connect regional history with wider cultural encounters. Sections on Holocaust remembrance and Palestine and the Holy Land sit alongside displays that explore tolerance and cooperation between faiths. English text accompanies many of the objects, though there is no audio guide or QR-code scanning option noted.

The collection is eclectic, and some objects have less explanatory detail than others. If you want to focus your time, the pearl and weapons sections, along with the manuscripts and interfaith displays, provide distinct ways into the collection.
