Na Muang Waterfall 1 sits inland in the jungle of Koh Samui, about 12 km from Na Thon. A short walk from the car park leads to the falls and a natural pool where you can swim beneath the shade of large trees. The rocks can take on a purple hue, giving the cascades their other name, the Purple Waterfalls. Na Muang 2 is nearby, but reaching it involves a more demanding uphill walk. Water flow can be low in drier periods.

The two waterfalls

Na Muang Waterfall
Na Muang Waterfall

Na Muang is a pair of waterfalls in the island’s interior. The first is close to the car park and reached by a short walk. Its pool is a natural place to cool off, and the trees around it provide shade.

The second waterfall takes more effort to reach. Paths continue uphill through the jungle, with some sections suited to a more adventurous walk. From higher up, there are views across the surrounding canopy.

Water levels and the rocks

The cascades are known for the purple tones of their rock faces. They are most striking when water is flowing strongly, but the falls can run low or dry during drier periods. Rainy-season conditions bring a better chance of seeing a fuller flow.

Pools and rocks are part of the appeal, but the footing around the water needs care. Take your time on the rocks, especially if you have been swimming.

Getting beyond the first cascade

Na Muang 1 is the easier stop if you want a short walk and time by the pool. The uphill route to Na Muang 2 is a different outing, with a more challenging trail and views from higher ground. Choose based on how much walking you want to do; the two falls do not require the same level of effort.
