About 10 km from Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep-Pui National Park brings together forested mountain scenery, waterfalls, hiking trails and the summit temple of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. From the top, you can look out over the city; around dusk, the sky and evening lights add another reason to stay. Trails such as Crazy Dust offer a longer walk, while Huay Kaew Waterfall is a shorter nature stop. The park also has high-altitude coffee farms. Plan a half-day if you want to explore beyond the temple.

Crazy Dust is one of the named hiking trails in the park. Bring enough drinking water, and avoid setting out when it is too dark. Some paths and sites are not well signposted, so a car can help if you plan to visit several places rather than stay around the summit.

Huay Kaew Waterfall sits about 2 km from the main road at the foot of the hill below Wat Doi Suthep. It can be reached by scooter, car or private driver. A national park guard station by the route collects an entrance fee of 200 baht per person. Elsewhere in the park, high-altitude coffee farms offer another kind of stop.
