Harder Kulm is the local mountain above Interlaken, 1,322 metres above sea level, and a funicular takes you to the top. From the summit you see Lake Thun and Lake Brienz at the same time, with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau behind them. Harder Kulm is the local mountain above Interlaken, at 1,322 metres above sea level. From the summit you look down on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz at the same time, which is why it is often called the top of Interlaken. Behind the lakes rise the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, a trio of world-famous peaks.

The modern building that houses the Panorama Restaurant is also used for meetings, seminars and events, and it can be rented exclusively.

The funicular is the quick way up. The ride is smooth and scenic. On weekends and during holidays, queues can build at the cable car station.

Swiss Travel Pass holders get a 50% discount on the ticket. The hiking trail to the top costs nothing, though it takes more effort than the train. Walkers also avoid the queue at the station.

Eating at the Panorama Restaurant

The Panorama Restaurant seats around 500 people. The menu runs from pizza and sausage to fondue and ice cream. Raclette comes as a cheese plate, and cheese fondue is the Swiss dish to order here.

The veal and beef sausage is soft, juicy and tender, and the ice cream is fresh. Service is quick and friendly, even on crowded evenings, when the team works hard to look after guests.

On busy evenings the kitchen is under pressure. Ask how the pork is cooked before you order it.

Around the summit

After your meal, walk to the Two Lakes Bridge, where a glass floor lets you look straight down at both lakes. There is a playground for children.

At the lookout point, alpine horn players perform every 30 minutes and will pose for photos.
