Playa del Matorral is a broad, roughly four-kilometre beach beside the promenade in Morro Jable, on Fuerteventura’s southern coast. Its pale sand and clear water make room for swimming, sunbathing and long walks, with cafés, restaurants and shops close by. Morro Jable Lighthouse is an easy landmark along the shore, and the protected Saladar de Jandía salt flat brings birdlife and salt-tolerant plants to the coastal landscape. The beach has both a regular and a clothing-optional section; the lighthouse marks the divide.

The beach and promenade

Playa del Matorral runs alongside Morro Jable’s seafront promenade for roughly four kilometres. Its wide sandy shore leaves room for sunbathing and walks by the water, with the town’s cafés, restaurants and shops within easy reach. The beach has Blue Flag status for cleanliness and quality.

The sea can be calm in some stretches, but conditions are not uniform. Waves and currents can become hazardous, so follow the beach flags and take care near the water. Lifeguards are present until 5 pm. The start of the beach near Laya restaurant is noted for calmer water and snorkelling.

The lighthouse and protected salt flat

Morro Jable Lighthouse is a visible landmark along the shore. It also marks the division between the clothing-optional section north of the lighthouse and the regular beach area closer to town. Choosing a stretch of beach can therefore depend on which setting you prefer.

Beside the shore, the Saladar de Jandía salt flat is a protected wetland of scientific importance. Salt-tolerant vegetation grows there, and birds visit the area. The beach and wetland offer two different ways to spend time here: a swim or walk on the sand, followed by a look at the coastal habitat.
