Torre d'en Galmés was inhabited from about 1400 BC until the end of Roman occupation. The settlement was later abandoned, then used by Muslim refugees. Its long history is visible across a broad, hilly area, where the remains of homes and religious structures sit among megalithic monuments.

The site covers more than 60,000 square metres. At its height, it may have housed as many as 1,000 people. Talayotic culture is specific to the Balearic Islands, and the settlement helps put Menorca's prehistoric remains in context.

Start at the information centre

The information centre has a short video presentation that introduces the site before you head outside. From there, explore at your own pace among the dwellings, religious buildings and megaliths. The three talayots stand on hilltops, so the route takes you across uneven, open ground.

Look for traces of the settlement's water-conduction system, an example of the engineering found among the ruins. Guided visits are available in English, French, Catalan and Spanish for visitors who want more context as they explore.
