Parròquia de Sant Jaume was founded under the protection of Mallorca’s royal family. It is among Palma’s older parish churches, and it was documented in 1248. Building work began in 1327 under master-builder Jordi Pujol. Renovations continued through the 16th century.

The church’s single nave and ribbed vault give the interior its Gothic structure. Side chapels line the nave, adding places to pause and look more closely at the church’s changing design.

The Gothic façade is marked by a large rose window, with a sturdy bell tower beside it. Inside, medieval forms sit alongside later work: the Chapel of the Santísimo is Baroque, and the main altarpiece is neo-Gothic.

The church also contains Baroque artworks, including paintings in the Santo Cristo chapel by Miquel Pons Cantallops and the San Cayetano altarpiece. Take time to notice these works as well as the architectural details. The interior is used for prayer and quiet reflection.
