The museum occupies traditional thatched cottages in Glencoe village. Its collection brings together objects and photographs connected with the area’s past, from household items and clothing to tools, toys and medicines. Displays also cover local work, including the slate industry, as well as agriculture and social history.

The cottages are known as cruck cottages: their roof-supporting beams run down the inside walls. The buildings give the exhibits a setting closely tied to local life.
