Dovecot Studios

Dovecot Studios is a working tapestry studio and contemporary art venue at 10 Infirmary Street in central Edinburgh, inside a former Victorian bathhouse. A working tapestry studio in a former bathhouse

Dovecot Studios occupies the former Infirmary Street Baths in central Edinburgh. The building was renovated for the studios in 2008. Tapestry work has taken place here since 1912, and the site remains a working studio as well as an arts venue.

The gallery gives you a view down to the weaving floor, where you can watch weavers at their looms. The studio works with contemporary tapestry artists, making rugs and textiles for exhibitions and private collections. Exhibitions in the gallery include Dovecot-curated shows and touring displays featuring artists from around the world.

Exhibitions, talks and the shop

Exhibitions change, so check the current programme before your visit. Displays can include information about the works, and some have a short accompanying film. Lunchtime guided talks offer an interactive way to learn about tapestry making and the work on view.

The shop sells contemporary craft, design and visual art, including books and postcards. There is also a café for coffee and a break between looking at the exhibition and the weaving studio. Private events can affect which areas are open to general visitors, so check access before setting out.
