The Praga Museum of Warsaw explores the history of the district on the city’s right bank, in historic tenement buildings at Targowa 50/52. Across three floors, photographs, documents, art and multimedia bring together the neighbourhood’s development and the experiences of people who lived and worked there. Audio introductions and local residents’ stories add a personal view of Praga. Look for the exhibitions downstairs, including the Jewish halls and a garage with two old cars. There is also a café in the building serving cakes and sweets.

The museum is housed in historic tenement buildings on Targowa Street. One of them is described as the oldest brick-built house in Praga and dates to the 18th century. The buildings are part of the visit: the museum also tells their story as places within the district’s past.

The exhibitions follow Praga’s history back to the 16th century. Photographs, paintings, engravings and archival material show how the neighbourhood changed and how people made their lives there. The displays combine objects and documents with multimedia, keeping the focus on a specific part of Warsaw rather than the city’s history as a whole.

Everyday life, railways and markets

Audio introductions and recordings of local residents give personal accounts of life in Praga, including work and local businesses. Archive photographs and video add detail, while some images came from residents who shared pictures of their own homes with the museum. These accounts connect individual experiences with the wider history of the district.

The exhibitions also explain the importance of railways and the main market in Praga’s development. On the lower level, look for the Jewish halls, remnants of a small Jewish prayer room and a video about characteristic Warsaw figures. A garage display includes two old cars. The museum also runs community activities, and its shop sells souvenirs.
