Monday Falls, also called Saltos del Monday, is a waterfall park in Paraguay, about a 15 minute drive from Ciudad del Este. The falls are an estimated 80 metres high, and the park gives you two ways in: the top of the falls, and an elevator down to river level, where the spray reaches you. Paved paths run downhill to the water and climb back up to the parking area, restrooms and restaurant. Take photos from several spots, and plan time for the walk back up.

The regular entrance leads to the top of the falls, where a mirador gives the wide view. You can buy food and drinks at the mirador, so you do not need to carry everything from the city.

The elevator goes down to the river level, where you stand close enough to feel the water splash. The walk between the top and the elevator is a mild route of about 0.7 km, ending at the elevator and the restaurant.

The main trail is paved. It runs downhill to the falls and climbs back uphill to the parking area, restrooms and restaurant, so keep a steady pace for the return.

A bathroom with toilet paper is near the entrance. The entrance and the parking lot are wheelchair accessible.

The park also has picnic tables, a barbecue grill, a playground, swings, slides, a basketball court, a volleyball court and a dog park. Dogs are allowed. Parking is available in a paid lot, and free street parking is also listed.

Monday Falls and the area around Ciudad del Este

Monday Falls is considerably smaller than Iguazu Falls, but it is still beautiful and makes a good break from the city.

Ciudad del Este has other natural places nearby, including the Municipal Park, the Limoy, Itabo and Pikyry biological reserves, and the Tatí Yupí natural reserve. A monument to the scientist Moisés Bertoni is also in the area.

In the nearby district of Hernandarias, the Itaipú Hydroelectric Dam is close to the city and draws visitors because of its size.
