Amsterdam Cheese Museum

The Amsterdam Cheese Museum is a small cheese shop and museum on Prinsengracht, close to the Anne Frank House.

The Amsterdam Cheese Museum is a small cheese shop and museum on Prinsengracht, close to the Anne Frank House. Browse Gouda in flavours ranging from familiar varieties to chili, pepper and whiskey, and sample many of the cheeses before choosing what to buy. Downstairs, displays cover Dutch cheese-making and dairy production, with a dress-up photo spot. The museum is free to enter, so you can combine a short look at the history with a tasting without paying an admission fee.

The cheese shop and tastings

The main floor is a cheese shop, with a broad selection of Gouda varieties. Many cheeses have samples available, and some are paired with sauces. Flavours mentioned include chili and pepper, as well as less familiar options such as whiskey-infused cheese. Staff can help you compare the choices and make a recommendation.

Cheese is available to buy, including varieties packaged to take on a flight. Prices noted for some cheeses range from about €10 to €20 or more. If you are choosing between styles, young Gouda is lighter and creamier, while older cheese has a sharper, stronger taste.

The basement museum

A small museum downstairs covers the history of Dutch cheese-making and older dairy production. Informative displays explain the subject, and QR codes provide more detail about objects and exhibits. The space also has a dress-up photo area with Dutch cheesemaker clothing, including hats, wooden shoes and aprons.

The museum is free to enter. The photo option and a coin-pressing souvenir are separate paid activities: the photo strips were listed at €5 for two strips, and the coin press at €1. These are optional extras, not admission charges.
