Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Twin Towers rise above Kuala Lumpur City Centre, their steel-and-glass façades shaped by patterns inspired by Islamic art. You can admire the 88-storey pair from KLCC Park or book a visit to the Skybridge on levels 41 and 42 and the observation deck on level 86 for views across the city. The towers are especially striking when lit after dark. Allow time to walk around the park and see the fountains, with Suria KLCC mall at the towers’ base.

A landmark shaped by Islamic patterns

The Petronas Twin Towers stand about 452 metres high and have 88 storeys apiece. Designed by architect César Pelli, the matching steel-and-glass buildings draw on Islamic patterns in their exterior. The towers were the world’s tallest buildings from 1998 until Taipei 101 took the title in 2004. They remain the world’s tallest twin towers.

Most of the buildings are offices, including the headquarters of Petronas. Their scale and paired form make them a defining part of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline, but their details are easier to appreciate from close by. Look up from the plaza and KLCC Park to see the repeating forms across the façades. At night, the towers are lit against the dark sky.

A ticketed tower visit takes you to two different vantage points. The double-deck Skybridge links the towers on levels 41 and 42, about 170 metres above the ground. It serves as a connection between the buildings and also as an emergency exit route. From here, you can look across the city and see the towers’ structure at close range.

The visit continues to the observation deck on level 86. Its exhibits and digital displays cover the building’s history, alongside views over Kuala Lumpur. The elevated position gives you a wider perspective on the city, including its mix of high-rise buildings, mosques and Hindu temples. A guided tour is one way to take in both levels; the tour material describes a visit of about 45 minutes.

KLCC Park and the towers from below

You do not need a ticket to see the towers from outside. KLCC Park, directly beside the buildings, has walking paths, a children’s playground and Lake Symphony’s musical fountains. The open areas around the park and the pavilion in front of the towers provide places to frame photographs. Allow time to walk around rather than stopping only for a picture.

Suria KLCC mall sits beneath the towers. It has shops and places to eat, as well as an aquarium, a science centre, an art gallery, a cinema and a concert hall. These nearby options can extend a visit, particularly if you are spending time in the city centre. The tower tour, park and mall are distinct parts of the KLCC area, so choose according to whether you want city views, outdoor time or indoor attractions.

Planning a tower visit

Skybridge and observation deck access requires a ticket, and daily tour places are limited. Booking ahead can help you secure a visit time; if you plan to buy a ticket in person, arriving early is advised. The towers can also be enjoyed without going up, so you can keep the visit free by spending time outside in the park.

Sunset lets you see the city in daylight and as evening sets in. For tower photography, the buildings are illuminated at night, while daytime light can make the exterior easier to capture. Early morning or later in the evening can mean less heat and fewer people. Check the official tower website for current ticket and visit details before setting out.
