Set in the grounds of Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, this mausoleum contains the marble tombs of Queen Luise, Friedrich Wilhelm III, Kaiser Wilhelm I and Augusta. Its classical temple design and carefully worked stone details make it a quiet stop for visitors interested in Prussian history and royal memorials. Queen Luise’s tomb is decorated with a sculpture by Christian Daniel Rauch. Pair the visit with the palace, then take a walk through the garden, whose formal Baroque areas give way to English-style landscape grounds.

Queen Luise died in 1810, aged 34, and was deeply mourned. Friedrich Wilhelm III, her husband, commissioned a mausoleum in the palace grounds, designed in the form of a classical temple. He also asked sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch to create the funerary sculpture for her sarcophagus.

Rauch’s work is a focal point of the memorial. The mausoleum also holds the marble sarcophagi of Friedrich Wilhelm III, Kaiser Wilhelm I and Augusta.
