Dalston Eastern Curve Garden is a free community garden at 13 Dalston Lane, built along the route of an old railway line. Raised beds, flowers, trees and wildlife-friendly planting create a leafy place to pause among the streets of Dalston. Find a seat beneath the fairy lights, listen for birds and pick up a hot drink or snack from the café-bar. The wooden pavilion hosts community events and workshops, including music evenings. Families can use the play area, and there is covered seating for cooler or rainy spells.

A garden on an old railway route

Dalston Eastern Curve Garden opened in 2010 on the former Eastern Curve railway line, which connected Dalston with the North London line and a goods yard. The community garden now runs along this old route, turning the space into a place for residents to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers.

The garden is at 13 Dalston Lane. Inside, raised beds and wildlife-friendly planting sit alongside wooden benches and a pavilion. The greenery gives you room to pause away from the busy streets, with birds and bees drawn to the plants.

Plants, seating and the café-bar

Take time to look around the planted beds and flower displays, then settle at one of the garden’s seating areas. There are covered places to sit as well as open-air spots, and a designated play area for children. The garden is dog-friendly.

An on-site café-bar serves hot drinks and snacks. The garden is free to enter, and donations are welcome. The café-bar helps support the garden, so buying something there is one way to contribute while you take a break.

Events and seasonal visits

The wooden pavilion hosts community activities and events. The programme has included gardening sessions, workshops, music evenings, film screenings and children’s craft activities. Check the garden’s website before your visit for current events and details.

The garden takes on seasonal decorations for events such as its autumn pumpkin festival. Warm evenings can draw a crowd, while a quieter visit gives you more room to sit among the plants. The garden is open on Saturdays from noon, with its longest opening window that day.
