In Lindsay’s former home

The gallery is housed in the former residence of Norman and Rose Lindsay in Faulconbridge. Its collection brings together work from several parts of Lindsay’s practice, including oil paintings, watercolours, pen drawings, etchings and sculptures. Ship models and furniture are also displayed in the house, adding to the sense of a working home rather than a gallery devoted to one medium.

The range of subjects includes figure studies as well as work connected with The Magic Pudding, Lindsay’s children’s book. The displays also cover printing and etching, two areas of his work that visitors can explore alongside the paintings. The layout is arranged so you can move through the rooms and view the works at your own pace.

A visit can include Lindsay’s studio, a room that gives a closer look at his artistic practice. Guided tours provide additional information about his life, work and family. If you join a group tour, the guide’s talk can help connect the different works and spaces around the property.

Outside, paths lead through maintained garden grounds with sculptures and a fountain. Make time to walk beyond the house: the property also has a pool built by Lindsay, a distinctive feature of the grounds. The garden gives you a different way to encounter the sculptures, away from the indoor displays.

The shop and planning your visit

The gallery shop sells books and publications by and about Lindsay, as well as original works and authenticated reproductions. Its print selection includes woodblock prints, limited-edition watercolour prints and facsimile etchings. Availability can vary, so check with the shop if you are looking for a particular work.

The property is at 14 Norman Lindsay Crescent in Faulconbridge. General admission is listed at $17, with free entry for National Trust members. The site has accessible entry, parking and restrooms. A café may not be operating, so plan on the possibility that refreshments will be limited; a mobile coffee van has been present on the grounds.
