The garden was founded in 1967 and covers more than five acres of UCLA’s campus. It is maintained by the Armand Hammer Museum of Art. More than 70 sculptures are displayed outdoors, including figurative and abstract works.

The collection includes pieces by Hans Arp, Deborah Butterfield, Alexander Calder, Barbara Hepworth, Jacques Lipchitz, Henry Moore, Auguste Rodin and David Smith. Their work spans different styles and materials, so a walk through the grounds brings you face to face with a varied collection rather than a single kind of sculpture.

Works among lawns and trees

Sculptures are placed throughout the garden, with some on the lawn, some near a fountain and others standing on their own. The setting also includes a formal brick plaza, an informal sloping lawn and South African coral trees that bloom.

This arrangement gives you several ways to encounter the collection. Follow the paths to look closely at individual pieces, or pause on the lawns and take in the works from a little farther away. Shaded places to sit make it possible to read, rest or spend time with a companion between stops.

Planning a visit

The garden is on UCLA’s north campus at 245 Charles E Young Drive East. Its grounds are open around the clock, so you can visit during daylight or after dark. A sculpture map on the garden’s website can help you locate particular works and shape your walk.
