At 81-6581 Mamalahoa Hwy in Kealakekua, the H.N. Greenwell Store Museum preserves a restored general store and offers a look at life on Hawaiʻi Island. The visit is especially hands-on when traditional Portuguese sweet bread is being made: on Thursdays, guests have helped divide dough before it is baked in a wood-fired oven. Exhibits and a docent add context, and children can explore interactive displays. Check ahead about the bread-making activity, as it can change.
