Built in 1901 to mark the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdülhamid II’s accession, the 25-metre Ottoman-era tower is one of the city’s best-known landmarks. Look for its four-sided clock faces and ornate stonework, then take in the square, where pigeons gather and locals pause to relax. Come near sunset to see the tower lit as the light changes, or continue on foot toward Kemeraltı Bazaar and the seaside promenade.

Konak Clock Tower was erected in 1901 to mark 25 years since Sultan Abdülhamid II came to the throne. Architect Raymond Charles Péré designed the tower, which rises 25 metres above Konak Square. Its clock was a gift from German Emperor Wilhelm II.

The monument has an octagonal plan and four levels. Its design combines Ottoman and European elements, and the slender tower has been compared to a minaret. Four clock faces sit near the top. At the base, four fountains are set into the structure, one on each side.

The tower is part of a larger historic square shaped by İzmir’s development in the 19th century. Nearby landmarks include Konak Mosque and the Provincial Hall, while the square also sits close to Kemeraltı Bazaar and the coast of the Gulf of İzmir.

The open square is a popular meeting place, with pigeons gathering around the tower and benches nearby. Visit near sunset for changing light and evening illumination. From here, you can walk toward the waterfront promenade or continue into the bazaar.
