Chiang Kai-Shek Shilin Residence is a former home of Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling at No. 60, Fulin Road, in Taipei’s Shilin District. Its grounds are open to the public, with a free garden area and a separate residence section that requires a ticket. The gardens combine Chinese and Western styles, with flowers, ponds, rare plants and seasonal displays. February is a good time to look for tulips; other flower shows take place at different times of year.
A residence opened to the public

The house was built in 1947 and completed in 1948. Chiang Kai-shek lived there for more than 26 years with Soong Mei-ling. The former residence opened to the public in 1996.
The property has a garden area that visitors can enter for free, as well as a residence section that requires a ticket. Access to parts of the house is limited, and photography is not permitted everywhere.
Gardens and seasonal displays

The grounds include Chinese- and Western-style gardens, ponds and a range of plants. Flower displays change with the season: tulips are associated with February, while other shows include roses, orchids, amaryllis, bonsai and chrysanthemums.
Look out for large topiary figures, including a giraffe at a piano and a pair of swans. A small covered area has displays of insects native to the region.
