Beneath the Metropol Parasol, known as Las Setas, the Antiquarium preserves Roman and Almohad remains uncovered during construction work at Plaza de la Encarnación. Walkways pass house foundations, mosaics, statues, vases and everyday objects, with displays explaining how Seville developed across different periods. The restored mosaic floors are a particular reason to look closely. This compact underground museum is a useful stop if you want to explore the city’s ancient past; allow about an hour, or combine it with a visit to Las Setas above.

Antiquarium

The Antiquarium is in the basement of the Metropol Parasol, the large structure in Plaza de la Encarnación also known as Las Setas. Archaeological remains came to light during construction work on the site. Today, glass walkways let you move through the preserved remains and view them from above.

The site includes Roman remains dating from around the first century to the sixth century, as well as Almohad Islamic remains from the 12th century. Among the visible traces are house foundations, streets and mosaics. The displays include objects from everyday life, along with statues and vases.

The mosaic floors are among the most detailed parts of the visit. Some belonged to Roman houses, including the fourth-century Casa de las Columnas, where a laurel-leaf design remains in the floor. Look for the mosaics and walls as you follow the route through the archaeological remains.

Interpretive displays explain the site and the changing history of Seville, from its Roman period as Hispalis through its Islamic-era remains. Photographs of the archaeological dig also help show what was uncovered. A small art exhibition has been present at the end of the route.

Planning your visit

The underground setting makes the Antiquarium an easy addition to a walk around Plaza de la Encarnación and Las Setas. It is a relatively compact museum, and about an hour gives you time to follow the route and read the displays. Visitors interested in ancient history and archaeology will get the most from the stop.

Entry costs €2.10, or is free with an Alcázar ticket. If you are relying on an Alcázar tour confirmation for free admission, take a printed copy with the QR code; a digital version may not be accepted. The museum is closed on Mondays. Some sections have flickering lights.
