Mirador de Morro Velosa is a César Manrique-designed viewpoint on Tegú Mountain, in the Santa Inés Valley near Betancuria. From 669 metres, you can look across Fuerteventura’s rounded hills, ravines and scattered villages, with views reaching El Cotillo, Tindaya and Antigua; on a clear day, Jandía may appear in the distance. The ochre-coloured building has a terrace and a small information area with maps and displays about the island. It is a quiet inland stop on the FV-30, away from the coast.
A viewpoint above the Santa Inés Valley
Mirador de Morro Velosa stands on Tegú Mountain at 669 metres, in the Betancuria area of Fuerteventura. The FV-30 leads to the viewpoint, which sits between the Betancuria massif and the Santa Inés Valley. Its elevated position gives a clear view across the island’s interior and north.
The scene is a shift from Fuerteventura’s coastal landscape: rounded hills, winding ravines and small villages spread across dry, earthy terrain. Looking north, you may make out Tindaya and El Cotillo. Antigua lies to the south, and on a clear day the view can extend towards Jandía.
César Manrique’s building and the displays
The viewpoint was designed by Lanzarote-born artist and architect César Manrique. The ochre-coloured building has a wooden porch and tiled roof, with a terrace for looking out over the surrounding hills. Its design was intended to complement the natural setting.
Inside, a small information area has maps and plaques about Fuerteventura’s history, inhabitants, flora and fauna. The building and its displays add context to the panorama, helping you identify parts of the island and understand what you are seeing.
Planning a stop
Morro Velosa works as a short stop on the drive towards Betancuria or as part of a day that also includes the Santa Inés Valley. The viewpoint is also near routes around Betancuria, where spring flowers can be seen during the ascent. A hike in the area has little shade and can be windy, so take sun protection and a windbreaker.
The café has been closed for renovation, so bring a drink or snack if you want refreshments. Parking is available, including accessible parking, and the entrance is wheelchair accessible. Check for renovation updates before visiting if you plan to use the building’s facilities.
