At Fàbrica Moritz Barcelona, you can pair house beer with Catalan-inspired tapas inside the former brewery on Ronda de Sant Antoni in Eixample. Order patatas bravas, croquetas or wings, or settle in for ribs with baked potatoes. Downstairs, glass panels reveal original brewery walls and machinery, while the active Moritz Beer Lab makes fresh, unpasteurized beer. The spacious venue has room for groups as well as smaller tables, and tours offer a closer look at the brewery’s history and brewing process.

A brewery with roots in Barcelona

Moritz began in Barcelona in 1856, founded by Louis Moritz Trautmann, a French immigrant. The first brewery was in the Raval. In 1864, the company moved production to a larger site on Ronda de Sant Antoni, where it brewed beer for more than a century.

The former factory is now a food and drink venue as well as a brewery. Its scale sets it apart from a small beer bar: there are spaces for groups and events, along with smaller tables, a terrace and areas that can be closed off.

Beer from the Beer Lab

The Barcelona site has an experimental microbrewery, the Moritz Beer Lab, where fresh, unpasteurized beers are brewed. Most Moritz beer is made in Zaragoza, so the Beer Lab is a small-scale brewing operation within the historic Barcelona facilities.

The bar serves house beer on tap, and the selection includes other beers. Brewery tours combine the history of the site and its architecture with a look at the active microbrewery. They can be a useful introduction to brewing, though the experience is less personal than a tour at a smaller brewery.

Tapas and a long menu

The food menu ranges from tapas and snacks to seafood and meat. Catalan cooking informs the dishes, alongside influences from Alsace and beer-focused creations. For a shared table, patatas bravas, croquetas, wings and hummus are among the options; ribs with baked potatoes make a more substantial order.

There is also mel i mató, a Catalan dessert to leave room for after the meal. The long menu suits groups with different appetites, and the spacious layout accommodates both small tables and larger gatherings.

The old brewery inside

Downstairs, glass panels give a view of original brewery walls and machinery, lending the space a museum-like feel. The historic fabric sits alongside the working Beer Lab, so a visit can include both a meal and a look at the building’s brewing past.

The venue is also used for events and has been a place to watch sports with supporters. If you are planning a group visit, reserve ahead on a busy night; for a quieter meal, choose a weekday.
