Cathedral Park sits in the center of Chișinău, on the square in front of the Nativity Cathedral. The park is open around the clock and has shaded paths, benches, fountains and sculptures, with families, students and chess players spread under the trees. Kiosks and cafes sell coffee and sweets, and government buildings and monuments are in view. Come at sunset, when the light falls on the cathedral's white facade, or during Orthodox Easter, when tulips fill the square.
The Nativity Cathedral

The Nativity Cathedral dates to the early nineteenth century and was built in the Neoclassical style, with a colonnade along its front. It is the main cathedral of the Moldovan Orthodox Church, and it stands in the middle of the park.
During the Soviet period, the interior was whitewashed. The building was damaged during the Second World War. After the Soviet Union fell, it was restored and new frescoes were added inside.
The white walls and the freestanding bell tower are the main reason the park is so recognizable, and they are the first thing most visitors look at.
