Asahi Group Head Office Super Dry Hall

Asahi Group Head Office Super Dry Hall sits on the east bank of the Sumida River in Sumida, across from Asakusa and Senso-ji. Stop for a glass of Asahi beer, then look out toward Tokyo Skytree and the temple from the upper floor. The black building is topped by the gold Asahi Flame, a Philippe Starck design that has become one of the area’s best-known landmarks. It’s a handy place to unwind after exploring Asakusa, though queues can build at busy times.

A riverside landmark in Sumida

Asahi Group’s headquarters stands on the east bank of the Sumida River, across from Asakusa and Senso-ji. The Super Dry Hall is one of the buildings in the complex. Its dark, sharply angled shape and gold sculpture make it easy to recognize from the surrounding area.

French designer Philippe Starck created the building, which was completed in 1989. The gold sculpture on top is officially called the Asahi Flame. It represents the foam on a glass of beer, and its unusual outline has made it a memorable part of the riverfront skyline.

Inside the Super Dry Hall, you can order Asahi beer at the company’s headquarters. Cold brew coffee is also on the menu. The upper floor gives you views toward Tokyo Skytree and Senso-ji, so ask for a window seat if one is available.
