Mal di Ventre is an uninhabited island off Sardinia’s Sinis coast, within the Penisola del Sinis marine protected area. Its small coves, pale beaches and clear water draw visitors for snorkeling and diving, while a walk around the roughly two-kilometre perimeter gives you a closer look at Mediterranean scrub and the island’s quiet, open landscape. There are no services or facilities, so arrange your boat crossing and bring everything you need for the day.

Mal di Ventre lies off the Sinis coast and is part of the Penisola del Sinis and Isola di Mal di Ventre Marine Protected Area, established in 1997. The island is uninhabited and roughly two kilometres around. Mediterranean scrub covers much of its low, flat ground, with wild garlic among the plants noted here.

The island’s exposed position brings strong winds. Its Sardinian name, Malu Entu, means “bad wind,” a reminder to plan the crossing with conditions in mind. The coast is known for coves and beaches with pale sand and quartz grains.

Clear water and marine biodiversity make the surrounding area a draw for snorkeling and diving. Secca del Libeccio is noted for its fish, while Secca del Catalano has red and yellow sponges and a variety of corals. Divers may also encounter larger open-water species, including dolphins and tuna.

You can explore the island on foot by following its perimeter, taking in the different stretches of coast and Mediterranean vegetation. This is a remote visit, not a beach stop with facilities: bring your own water, food and sun protection, and take your waste back with you. Some areas may restrict swimming to protect the environment, so follow local conservation guidance.
