Ask to sample the range of Carignano wines, and look out for Terre Brune and the late-harvest Nasco dessert wine, Latinia.
A cooperative in Sulcis

Cantina Santadi was established in 1960 in the Sulcis area of southwestern Sardinia. It is a cooperative of local growers, with more than 600 hectares of vines. The winery’s work brings together grapes grown across the region and production under one roof.
Carignano is central to its identity. Many vines in the area grow on their own roots, without grafting, and the sandy soils helped some survive phylloxera. These old vines are part of what gives the winery’s wines their character.
From fermentation hall to cellar

A guided visit can take you through several stages of production. In the fermentation hall, you can see where the process begins; the tour may continue into the barrel room, past French barriques and larger Slavonian oak casks, and along the bottling line. The underground wine cellar is another highlight.
The guide explains the cooperative’s history and the winemaking process as you move through the working spaces. Cantina Santadi is also connected with winemaker Giacomo Tachis, whose work helped bring attention to the winery internationally in the 1980s. The road leading to the cantina bears his name.
Tasting Carignano and local wines
The tasting is guided and can include several wines, accompanied by local cheeses, cured meats and bread. Vermentino provides a white-wine contrast to the reds. Carignano is presented in different styles, from fresher expressions to fuller wines.
Terre Brune is a Carignano del Sulcis Superiore. Latinia is a dessert wine made from late-harvest Nasco grapes. Bottled wines are available at the winery, and table wine is also sold on tap for visitors who bring a container. The tasting lets you compare the wines after seeing how they are made.
