On Via Gaetano Filangieri in Naples’s Chiaia district, Palazzo Mannajuolo is an early 20th-century building known for its Art Nouveau design. Its curved façade draws the eye, but the main reason to stop is the oval staircase inside. Ask security whether you may enter; access is limited, and the staircase can be viewed and photographed from the ground floor, not climbed. It’s a brief architectural detour for anyone interested in Naples’ buildings or in locations seen in film and television.

Palazzo Mannajuolo stands on Via Gaetano Filangieri in Chiaia. Work began in 1909, and the building was completed between 1910 and 1911. Entrepreneur and engineer Giuseppe Mannajuolo commissioned it.

Architect Giulio Ulisse Arata designed the palazzo with engineers Gioacchino Luigi Mellucci and Giuseppe Mannajuolo. Its construction used reinforced concrete, then a modern technique. The building is associated with Naples’ Art Nouveau architecture.

The oval, elliptical staircase is the interior detail that draws particular attention. Its shape can be seen from below, but visitors cannot climb it. Ask security at the entrance about access and photography; any permitted view is from the ground floor.

The staircase appeared in the television series L’Amica Geniale and in the film La Napoli Velata. The exterior is also a subject for photographs, so the palazzo can be appreciated even if you cannot enter.
