Vancouver City Hall is an Art Deco civic building at 453 W 12th Ave, on the south side of the Cambie Bridge. Its grounds are a quiet stop for architecture, city and mountain views, and public art, including the Captain George Vancouver statue by Charles Marega and Lovers by Derhard Juchum. Cherry trees add colour in spring. The building is also known for its Micro Wedding Program, and staff can provide guidance and insights about the Council Chamber.

A civic building from the Depression era

Vancouver City Hall

Vancouver City Hall was built as the city expanded south and west into Point Grey and South Vancouver. The decision to move city hall beyond the Downtown Core was led by then-mayor Gerry McGeer.

The building's Art Deco style belongs to its era. Its construction was also a Depression-era make-work project, alongside the Third Hotel Vancouver and the Lions Gate Bridge.

The grounds include the Captain George Vancouver statue by Charles Marega and Lovers by Derhard Juchum. The steps leading to the entrance are a useful setting for photographs, including wedding pictures. Several kinds of cherry trees grow around the grounds and bloom in spring.

The Micro Wedding Program is a distinctive reason some couples choose City Hall. Staff can also offer guidance and share information about the Council Chamber.
