The church stands in San Telmo, directly opposite Lezama Park. Its five blue domes set it apart from the surrounding architecture. Each dome is topped by a cross facing east, following Russian custom, and supported by chains.

The design is in the 17th-century Muscovite style. Mihail Preobrazensky, architect to Russia’s Holy Synod, drew up the original project. Alejandro Christophersen later adapted it for Buenos Aires. Construction took place between 1898 and 1901, and the church opened in 1904.

A guided visit can introduce the liturgy and traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church in Argentina; the tour is described as lasting about an hour.

Access is limited, and the church may be closed to late arrivals once a service is in progress. Check the church’s website before visiting and plan to arrive on time.
