Oneloa Beach

Oneloa Beach, also called Ironwoods Beach, is a quiet stretch of sand on West Maui between Kapalua and Napili. Its long shoreline is good for a walk, a sunny break or photos of the beach, lava rocks and greenery along the cliffs. Waves can draw body surfers and boogie boarders, but conditions can make swimming hazardous. The small parking area has limited spaces, and steps lead down to the beach. For a longer outing, you can reach the shore via the Kapalua Coastal Trail.

A quieter shore between Kapalua and Napili

Oneloa Beach lies on the northern part of West Maui, between Kapalua and Napili. It is also known as Ironwoods Beach. The shoreline is a place to stretch out on the sand or take a long walk, with fewer people around than at busier beaches.

The beach has a broad sandy stretch, lava rocks and greenery along the cliffs. These make different settings for photographs, from the water's edge to the higher trail. Steps connect the limited parking area with the shore.

Waves and coastal walks

Surf conditions shape what you can do here. Waves attract body surfers and boogie boarders, but strong surf can make entering the water dangerous. Avoid swimming when waves are large, and take particular care with children and anyone who is not an experienced swimmer. Snorkeling and swimming are activities for calmer conditions, not a reason to overlook the surf.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail runs nearby and can form part of an outing to the beach. Oneloa's shoreline also works for a simple walk or a break in the sun; you do not need to enter the water to enjoy the setting.
