Ephesus Ancient Greek Theatre is one of the largest ancient theatres in the ancient city of Ephesus, near the modern town of Selçuk in İzmir Province, western Türkiye. The site is well preserved, and many of its structures are still intact. The theatre could seat up to 25,000 spectators. The Library of Celsus is the site's best-known building. Plan a few hours, and wear shoes with good grip, because the marble floors are slippery.
The Library of Celsus

The library was designed to store scrolls and books, with room for an estimated 12,000 manuscripts at its peak. It also served as a monumental tomb for Celsus, whose sarcophagus lies in a crypt beneath the main floor.
Photos of the library are known around the world, and it is the building most people come to see first.
The theatre and the shows

The ancient theatre is one of the largest of its kind and could seat up to 25,000 spectators. Elton John once performed on its stage.
Live reenactments of Roman guards take place on the site. Sound and light shows are also held here, and the multimedia experience centre is included with the main ticket.
The audio tour gives useful background on the sites you pass, so it is worth taking if you want more than the signs provide.
Terrace Houses and timing
The Terrace Houses need an extra ticket, and they hold the site's frescoes and mosaics. Allow a few hours to see the main areas at an easy pace.
Summer is hot, with little cooling breeze, so plan the visit for the morning. January is cooler and has fewer visitors.
